Think you are not college bound? Think again!
Are you a person with a disability who thinks that college or training beyond high school is not an option? Think again! There are educational opportunities available for everyone who wants it.
Perhaps
you have been given the message, either directly or indirectly,
that you don't have what it takes to participate at the college
level? Wrong! College is not just for braniacs and bookworms. Everyone
has something to gain from going to college whether it's 1 or 2
courses, a certificate or a full degree. Research has shown that
the more education post high school you get (like college!), the
more money you earn.
There are many disability supports and services available that will
help you learn and meet your goals. This website is about college
and the things to consider before and while you are there.
Good Luck!
"If you have a disability and want to go to college, you need to sign up in the disability office if they have one. The student needs to have paperwork that documents their disability. After that, you can get help." -- Beth Tornatola, 20
Photovoice
Over the last two years, some high school students in Massachusetts have been recording their ideas about leaving high school. Using a process called Photovoice, students took photographs and wrote about how they felt, especially about starting a career path and exploring and attending college. Through the Photovoice samples in this section of the website, visitors can hear directly from students on how they feel about the issues discussed on this website.
